I'm curious too, but haven't heard of anyone doing something close to that.
while i don’t know exactly what SMRT does, prognostics and remaining useful life calculations using sensor data are typical in the field (look for literature on the Nasa prognostics datasets). When sensor data isn’t available, sometimes Weibulls and non-parametric methods such as Kaplan-Meier are used.
